Roseann began painting after an accident gave her a “new sight.”
In 2002 Roseann broke her neck and had double brain concussions in an automobile accident in Hawaii. For many months Roseann had to lie still, allowing the bones to knit without movement. Fortunately, her recovery time was spent on the Big Island of Hawaii. Many friends and well-wishers helped care for her during the convalescence and her room was full of flowers.
Unable to read or move about, Roseann spent many hours meditating and watching the light as it entered the room, illuminating the flowers sent by friends. Roseann began to perceive the light geometrically and found the play of shapes created by light and shadow fascinating. Patterns in the flowers and the light became evident.
This “sight” led to a renewed interest in geometry, pattern and design. As soon as Roseann was able to move about she asked a friend to shop for painting supplies. Over the next couple of years Roseann studied painting technique with various teachers, preparing her self to create art based on her new perception of the geometry of light.
